Memorial University Assistant Professor Position

The Department of Folklore at Memorial University of Newfoundland is seeking an outstanding individual with an established record of excellence in teaching and research for a full-time position at the rank of Assistant Professor to commence July 1, 2017, subject to budgetary approval. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Folklore or a closely related discipline.

The successful candidate will have expertise in oral narrative, including legend and folktale, as well as narrative theory with both regional and global perspectives. Candidates will also be expected to demonstrate knowledge and experience in other areas of folklore theory and methodology. In addition to establishing an active program of research, they will be required to teach at all levels of the Department of Folklore’s well-established B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. programs, as well as contribute to our annual ethnographic field school.

A completed earned doctorate is required for the appointee to receive the rank of Assistant Professor and to be in a tenure-track position. (If a successful candidate has not completed an earned doctorate, he/she shall be appointed to a regular term, non-renewable three-year appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. If the candidate completes all the requirements for the doctorate during the first 24 months of the term appointment, he/she shall begin a tenure-track appointment following completion of the requirements of the degree).
